In January, a group of 35 seniors and juniors traveled to Washington, D.C. on the school’s annual trip with the Close Up Foundation. The activities for the week included attending the Presidential Inauguration and visiting many of the area museums such as the National Archives and the National Museum of American History.
Current senior Austin Werkheiser said that another site they visited, the American Museum of Natural History, was a favorite moment for him on the trip. “I really liked how visual the presentations were,” and the reconstructions helped him comprehend the scale of the animals displayed there.
Students also had the opportunity to participate in current issue debates with other students. BT students participated in these activities with students from as far away as California and as close as Louisiana and were able to learn from different perspectives. In fact, Isioma Okobah, a current BT senior who went on the trip, appreciated meeting others from across the country. “I’m still really good friends with my roommates,” she commented recently. The unique nature of Close Up allows for this kind of experience; two BT students room with two students from another school, which prepares them well for college experiences.
Once again this year, the Blessed Trinity Social Studies Department is organizing the trip for juniors and seniors to Washington, DC, January 19-24, 2014. The attached information includes details and specifications about the trip as well as contact information. There are still several spots available.
